"I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals." Winston Churchill Smithers is a town of nearly 6,000 people located in the beautiful Bulkley Valley in central British Columbia. It is surrounded by magnificent mountain ranges and scenic rivers, lakes and valleys. It is large enough to have all the amenities necessary for modern life, yet small enough to have a comfortable feeling of community.

The town lies half way between Prince Rupert and Prince George, and is the regional headquarters for many government offices including the Skeena Regional Headquarters for the Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks. The region has a trading area population of 20,000 and a labour force of 11,500.

Smithers is known world-wide for its outdoor activities.  Summer activities include fishing, camping, hiking, white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking and horse-back riding. Wintertime brings downhill and cross-country skiing, curling, skating, and snowmobiling.

Smithers has a good school system and is the ideal town to raise a family, and is the ideal place to be a kid.

The industry of the community is mixed - agriculture, forestry, manufacturing, mining.
